Koala fossils found in Australia have been dated as long ago as 20 million years.
Koala young are known as ‘joeys’. When the joey is born, it is less than an inch long. It is blind and furless and its ears are not yet developed.
Koalas also communicate with each other by making a range of noises. The most startling and unexpected of these is a sound like a loud snore and then a belch!
Koalas sleep for up to 16 hours per day in order to conserve energy.
