Position Summary:

We are seeking an Assistant Designer – Toy Division to join our product development team.

As a member of the product development team, this role is responsible for assisting with the design and development of the company’s toy line from idea stage through prototype stage to finished item. This position requires working closely with other departments, including graphic design, sales, marketing, and planning departments, and communicating with vendors and colleagues abroad.

We are willing to train a motivated entry-level candidate. 

Qualified candidates will have design and illustration skills, strong communication skills, close attention to detail, and a positive attitude. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Toy Design
    Works closely with large customers and makers in China to design toy line.
  • Displays and Marketing
    Creates displays and marketing options for toy line. Works closely with marketing department to achieve marketing objectives relative to toy line.
  • Prototypes
    Creates prototypes to save money on tooling.
  • Product Knowledge
    Develops strong knowledge of current products and keeps knowledge up-to-date.
  • Assist Other Departments
    Assists other departments as needed and completes other duties as may be assigned to contribute to the efforts of the team.
  • Confidentiality
    Maintains confidentiality of all corporate, personnel and research matters and uses good judgment regarding disclosure to appropriate parties.
  • Interdepartmental Communication
    Partners with cross-functional departments and teams to ensure customer needs are met, issues are
    resolved promptly, and to contribute to overall success for the business.

  • Brainstorming
    Skilled at idea generation, brainstorming and ideation.

    Researches competition, consumers and target internal business landscape for identifying trends and insights.

    Strong aesthetic sensitivities and functional creativity.
  • Design
    Prepares sketches of ideas, detailed drawings, illustrations, artwork using Pencils, Markers and Paints/Brushes, or computer-aided design equipment. Modifies and refines designs, using working models, to conform with specifications, production limitations, or changes in design trends.

    Demonstrated drawing, painting, and sculpting talent.

    Strong organizational skills to manage own workload while also maintaining department efficiency and records.

Required Education / Experience / Specific Job-related Skills

Years of Experience:

1 to 2 years of experience in design is preferred.

Education/Training:

BA/BS college degree in design or its equivalent preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires occasionally sitting, standing and walking, and lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds. The position also requires manual dexterity and normal or corrected vision to operate a computer in the course of work.
